DELAY IN BRICKS

We received a phone call and email from our SS on the 2nd April advising us that Austral is unable to supply the bricks until the 16th. Eldric was surprised that I took it well despite the fact that we now face delays. The truth is, I have actually started second guessing our brick choice – long before we were told of this brick issue! You see, a few weeks ago, we drove around the estate and many of the houses have used Austral bricks in Blackbutt or PGH Bricks in Espresso (equivalent of each other). It made me think that all the houses in the estate are going to look very similar! It was actually The estate’s requirement to have dark face bricks, hence many have chosen the two I have just mentioned. Blackbutt was unavailable due to supplier demand – which just proves how popular this brick is!

Coincidentally, Eldric and I had annual leave the following day as our daughter had an Orthodontist appointment. After dropping her off at school, we popped by Austral Bricks as it was literally down the road (again, it must be a sign!) It really was meant to be! We wanted to look at Orpheus in the Whitsunday range as well as Bluegum in the Wilderness range. As soon as we saw Bluegum, we knew it was the one! It sparkled in the sun – was actually a nice sunny day that day so it made the decision much easier! It even had a metallic look to it because of the bluish tinge! It is still a dark face brick, but it is a different type of dark from our original choice of Blackbutt. The Orpheus was a nice brick also. But it was probably a little too grey for our liking. We had to get this right so we deliberated for awhile. Bluegum was not available until the 9th, so still a one week delay – but we think it’s worth it! It would be interesting to see all the brick choices in our street since our side of the street are all Wisdom Homes!

We realized that we had a choice now to change it and all the signs were there… lol! As soon as we finished at Austral Bricks, I texted our SS about the new choice. Two days later, we signed a Building Variation to change the bricks to Bluegum – obviously no Admin Fee payable as the change was due to “supplier unavailability”. Very excited about seeing the bricks and hope it turns out! We are hoping our bricks get started next week! Our SS did tell us that the brickie he has chosen still needs to finish our neighbour’s house. From last weekend’s visit, the upstairs side wall just needs to be done and they are finished, as well as a brick clean. So fingers crossed for brick work to start on our house next week!
